Welcome to the 2017- 2018 WordMasters Challenge! An orientation for students new to WordMasters will be held after school on Wednesday, Oct 4, 2017 from 2:50-3:30 in the Sycolin Creek Art Room. We will review analogies and suggested study habits so students know what to expect and how to prepare for the tests. If you cannot make the orientation, we will put a folder with practice worksheets and the first set of words in the student's teacher’s mailbox after orientation.
The WordMasters Challenge is a critical thinking competition open to all third, fourth and fifth graders that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of 75 interesting new vocabulary words which are harder than grade level. Then, the children are challenged to use these words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships.

Working to solve the Challenge analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically. The WordMasters Challenge has been administered for the past 25 years by a company in Allendale, New Jersey, which is dedicated to inspiring high achievement in American Schools, and each year nearly 150,000 students participate in this three-part national competition.

The Sycolin Creek Elementary School PTA is proud to be sponsoring three teams in the blue division of the challenge this 2017-2018 school year, and any willing student in grades 3, 4, or 5 is eligible to participate.
